Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your office located?

Due to Covid-19 my office is in “transition.” I will be providing services in the Greater Heights, Bellaire and East End areas when services are safe to resume in person.

I have extensive experience offering quality counseling and art therapy services online and you may find you like the freedom of participating in therapy from home around your schedule!

I encourage you to contact me with any questions regarding service locations or my unique approach to online counsling in the time of Covid-19.

What are your hours?

In person – I work by appointment Monday-Saturday during normal business hours, 8am to 4pm.

Online – I work by appointment Monday – Sunday.

Do you take insurance?

I do not accept insurance and am considered an out-of-network (OON) provider. My office can help you determine your OON benefits and will provide the paperwork you need to file individual claims for reimbursement. We will do everything possible to assist you within a reasonable scope.

What are your rates?

Individual sessions are $135 and approximately 50 minutes long.

There is an active waiting list for a sliding scale, I am happy to add you to that list! The range is between $80 – $125 per session.

What is your cancellation policy?

I need 24 hours’ notice to cancel your appointment without charging the agreed full fee.

That said, I do understand that life happens and that we are living in unprecedented times. Please communicate with me about  your appointment so we can work together toward a solution.

Many of my clients find their way to me during times of great personal challenge that can make scheduling tough – I’m here to work with you.

Open communication is key; however, no call, no show appointments will always be billed at the full rate using your on file credit card.

Do I have to do art therapy?

Nope. Although I love art therapy, and I’ve witnessed some miraculous processing holding that space, about half of my clients prefer more traditional talk therapy.

I believe in letting you explore art therapy and other methods that you may not be familiar with, at a pace that is comfortable.

If I feel that you could benefit, I will certainly invite you to give it a try after you are established in our relationship.

I’m not artistic/talented/creative… can I do art therapy?

First, yes you are… Second, yes, absolutely…. Third, and by the way, you are one of my favorite clients! We get to rediscover together that you are in fact artistic, talented and creative.

What happens during a typical art therapy session?

When someone is specifically interested in art therapy, it is incorporated into every session.

This may look like a quick creation to check in with each other, followed by a conversation about where you are in your treatment, your week and your progress. At that time, we will either pick back up on a piece you have been working on or begin work on another.

I use a wide variety of media including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, digital photo, found objects, crafting, fabric and sewing, and so many more!

Why do you refer out for family and couples therapy?

I recommend couples and/or family therapy when I believe that there are issues that you need to work out with a loved one that are going to continue to hold back your individual progress.

I believe very strongly in practicing within my scope of expertise, and I want my expertise to be you!

When that happens, my focus is solely on helping you to find the way to loving your life. You deserve my full attention!

Why can't we be friends after I'm ready to leave therapy?

I love this question! It is such a vulnerable (and empowering) moment to ask for a relationship of any kind to change or continue – our work has been good for you and for me to watch you succeed!

My therapy style invites a deep connection that feels a lot like friendship! A friend is a person that you choose to have in your life and, more importantly, that you trust – I work hard to develop that trust so that we may remove fear of judgment and work toward your goals.

It is an honor to choose and trust alongside you during your journey!

Life is full of challenges, even when you are an emotionally balanced, conscious and a conscientious human! If you need me, I can be here for you in this space we have created in the relationship we have now – and I wouldn’t want to change that. I always welcome your updates as life continues to get better.

How do you pronounce your name?

The name Senona was given to me by my paternal grandfather, who named me after his mother. It is pronounced: Seh-no-nuh

My family and married name is Ortiz-Haugenater and is pronounced:

Or-tease – How-guh-nay-ter

I never get tired of spelling it over the phone!
